Holiday Gift Idea: "Shellie the Magical Dog" by Michael and Linda Amiri

Shellie is a magical dog who has a belly that smells like strawberries and gives her human “brother”, Kelly, confidence when he needs it. Kelly is a very shy and introverted child who just needs a bit of a push to have more confidence, and he gets that magical confidence from Shellie. Every time he rubs her belly and smells strawberries, he can stand up straighter and do things he never thought he could before. One day, Shellie’s magic goes away, but Kelly soon realizes the confidence he needed was within himself all along.

Shellie the Magical Dog is a great little book to teach kids that their self-assurance is within themselves. The authors, Michael & Linda Amiri, did a great job of writing this in a way that is clear and in a way children can understand. Our nearly 6 year old son Quinn really loved this book and I hope he remembers it when he is needing that little bit of extra confidence.
