On Sunday, I brought the kids to the Cape see some family for St. Patrick's Day. At the event were my cousins and their kids, including my13 month old grand-NIECE Maddy. (I type “niece” in all caps to make sure you understand this is a little girl.)
The kids are smitten with Maddy and play with her the entire time, Makenzie especially so. After playing with Maddy for quite some time, Makenzie suddenly gets up and runs over to me and says:
“I think the baby is going to grow up to be a girl!”
I couldn't help but laugh out loud. It never really occurred to me that she didn't understand how that worked yet. Everybody got a kick out of it, and it made some interesting conversation during the long ride home.
