The magic of Santa Claus is something I try to keep alive for our children as long as possible. Last year, in addition to making sure that our children's letters to Santa received responses and that the cookies and milk we left out for him were eaten (with the exception of a few crumbs), our children found a delightful surprise Christmas morning. I had the pleasure of testing out a Your Santa Story DVD a whole year before they were available for purchase. This DVD contained a personalized video message to our children from Santa based on information I had provided . . . information that only people who are close to our children would know.
I had used a wide red grosgrain ribbon (not included) to hang the DVD on our Christmas tree for the children to discover on their own. They were so curious as to what could be on the DVD, but we waited until after breakfast had been eaten and all the other gifts had been opened before we watched it.
It was so much fun to watch our children's expressions change as they realized that Santa was actually talking to them. Santa knew their names, what town they lived in, their pets' names, all about their hobbies, and more.
I could only imagine what was going through their minds while they listened to Santa addressing them.
If our children had any doubts about whether Santa really watched them to see if they have been naughty or nice, those doubts were erased that morning. Santa knew our daughter was an artist and he encouraged our oldest son to keep practicing his soccer moves.
Now if that was not enough to put huge smiles on our children's faces, there was one more surprise. At the end of Santa's message, he revealed to our children that there was one last present waiting for each of them in our shoe bench. Without hesitation, all 3 children ran over to the bench to see what was hidden inside.
I doubt our children will forget that particular Christmas for a long time (if ever). Making Christmas magical creates such wonderful memories for both the children and the parents.
