Review: Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil (DVD)
Although we did not see the original Hoodwinked movie, we did see the previews for Hoodwinked Too!: Hood vs Evil at the movie theater earlier this year and I thought it would be a film the whole family would enjoy. Unfortunately we did not make it back to the theater before Hoodwinked Too! finished its run, so we were so happy to have the chance to watch the movie at home. With a star-studded cast, which includes Haden Panettiere (voice of Red Riding Hood), Glenn Close (voice of Granny), Martin Short, Brad Garret, and so many more, I knew this film had to be filled with entertaining humor.
The key to a successful animated family film is that it appeals to both children and adults alike. This movie does that by being both packed with action and humor. It also makes references to Kill Bill, Bruce Lee, Star Wars, and Project Runway that most likely only the adults will pick up. We also learned why our 7.5 year old son was going around saying "Aaawkward!" all the time.
This film also has a strong "girl power" message. It was interesting to learn about the Sisters of the Hood, a sisterhood of witches that goes back for generations. There are also positive messages about loyalty, friendship, and teamwork. After watching this movie, I am sure many girls will be asking for martial arts lessons so that they can kick butt like Red.
The children very much enjoyed the music videos under the Special Features. I personally thought it was so much fun to watch Heidi Klum do the voice over for her character Heidi. She was perfect for the part!
