Silly Monkey Stories: What I Want to Learn in the First Grade

A couple weeks ago, my husband and I attended our first parent/teacher conference for first grade. Aside from a minor concern that Jake may not be as flexible as one would like on rare occasions (I have no idea where he gets that from), the teacher had nothing but positive things to say about him. We could not have been more proud.

We had arrived at the school about ten minutes early, so we had to wait for the previous conference to wrap up before we could sit with the teacher. While we were waiting, my husband and I admired all the projects posted outside of our son's classroom. One of them was a drawing and writing assignment about what each child would like to learn to do in the first grade. The majority of the students wrote that they wanted to learn to read books. A few children said that they wanted to be famous. I think one child said she wanted to learn to sing. What does our child want to learn in the first grade? . . .

("In the first grade I want to learn to be a construction worker.")
