Holiday 2010 Giveaway: "The Adventures of Ook and Gluk" (5 Winners) [CLOSED]
If you are looking for a book to gift this holiday for a child between the ages of 6 and 10, Scholastic recently released a new hardcover book that is fun and will encourage grade school-aged children to read. I am referring to The Adventures of Ook and Gluk: Kung-fu Cavemen From the Future. Without reading the cover, my 6 year old son recognized the illustration style and knew immediately that this book comes from the creator of the Captain Underpants series . . . Dav Pilkey.
As a child, I loved to read comic books because there were an abundance of illustrations, mostly conversation, and minimal narration. Books written in this format seem to be more inviting and less intimidating than standard format chapter books.
Even though my son does not struggle with reading, he still owns a handful of graphic novels. They are fun for him to read and are a nice change of pace. A graphic novel would be a great alternative to yet another toy this holiday. He is hoping there will be another volume of Ook and Gluk to come in the future.
Learn more about this new offering from Dav Pilkey by watching this short trailer . . .
