The Ewings and the Carringtons they are not, but that's just fine with me. I'm talking about the Braverman family of the new NBC drama series called "Parenthood." They may be a large family with some conflicting personalities and sibling rivalry, but they are far more relatable than those soapy shows of the 80's."Parenthood" is set up to succeed with some of my favorite television actors, such as Lauren Graham (from "Gilmore Girls") and Craig T. Nelson (of "Coach"). Throw executive producers Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Jason Katims into the mix and how could you go wrong? I personally prefer television comedies over dramas, but this show made me laugh enough that I will be tuning in on Tuesday nights.
This show incorporates all the ups and downs of being a parent in the storyline. The show starts with:
- Single moms
- Parents of teenagers
- Parents of a child diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome
- A family with a working mom and a stay-at-home dad
- A grandfather who favors tough love
- A woman who cannot wait to become a mother
- An unprepared man who is suddenly thrusted into fatherhood
