Review: Important Things With Demetri Martin - Season One

My husband has thoroughly enjoyed catching a few episodes of Demetri Martin's first season of Important Things With Demetri Martin on Comedy Central. Because he had not been able to view all the episodes, he was more than happy to review the DVD of the first season, which is due to hit stores on September 8th, 2009. He describes Martin's show as somewhat of a variety show based on the comedian's stand-up comedy routines.

What my husband thought about this Comedy Central DVD:

1) Demetri Martin uses intelligent humor. Although my husband also enjoys slapstick and "colorful" comedy, he finds this type of humor to be very enjoyable and refreshing.

2) Martin often uses drawings and charts as an effective way to illustrate his routines.

3) In addition to utilizing visual aids, Martin often performs side skits by playing and singing songs for his audience, which adds a little variety to the show.

4) Although my husband very much enjoys Martin's type of humor, it is too consistent and could use a little more variety.

This DVD would make a great gift for someone who has never had the pleasure of watch Demetri Martin's stand-up comedy. Unfortunately, as with most comedic DVDs, after it's been enjoyed once or twice, the viewer is ready to hear new jokes. After all, the draw of watching a comedian at work is the question of "What will he or she come up with next?".

Beginning September 8th, you should be able to find Important Things With Demetri Martin: Season One at the Comedy Central Shop and most places locally and online where DVDs are sold.
