Kindergartner-In-Training: Wish Me Luck!

Tomorrow I am starting my program for preparing my son Jake for kindergarten in the fall. I'm not really homeschooling him, but I've come up with a little program to do short quick activities every week day from now until school starts again in the fall.

Simply stated, there will be a square chart with 16 squares. Each square will have an activity written in it. When my son completes a square, he will be able to put a sticker on it. For every row across, down, or diagonal he fills with stickers, he will get a Mardi Gras coin. We have been using Mardi Gras coins as a reward system. Jake saves them up and then gets to spend them on books and small toys in a store located in the corner of my bedroom.

In theory, this program I have come up with should work. I have activities that touch on reading, storytelling, math, telling time, etc . . . I only hope that the activities will be fun for Jake so that he will want to participate. I don't want it to be something that I have to force him to do.

Well, I thought it would be interesting for me to blog about Jake's and my experience. Maybe my ideas will benefit other parents who are look for a way to introduce creative learning at home. Who knows . . . maybe I'll sneak a product review or giveaway in here and there if I find some things that will fit into my program. Wish me luck!
