The reason why this mitt has sentimental value for Jake is because it is his very first real baseball mitt. (The last one had velcro on the palm to help catch a plush ball.) It is a special item because it reminds him of playing catch with his Dad and he took it along to his very first Red Sox game at Fenway Park recently. He is also obsessed with tying and untying that big knot shown in the second photo. I guess he's one step away from tying his own shoelaces.
