Universal Studios did a fantastic job bringing a childhood favorite to the big screen. It has always been my opinion that turning simple stories into full length movies is not only difficult, but rarely done well. The Lorax has showed me not only is this possible, but it's possible to do a fantastic job. I truly felt like I was there, 35 years ago, living the story in my imagination like I did when it was read to me as a child. As a sceptical adult that is not easy to do!
The movie added to and embellished upon the original story to transform it from a simple tale with a powerful message to an entertaining full length film without losing the strength of the message. We watched it without the kids due to its rating of PG, but after finishing the movie we knew right away the kids would be able to watch it. I feel the message may impact them and possibly even cause a few moments of sadness here and there, but the value of the message is worth it. Nobody can see this movie without being very conscious of our impact on nature.
The Blu-ray Combo Pack includes a pile of extra material including 3 unseen shorts that were very fun and endearing. There are online and interactive material as well. In today's lean times it's great to have a product that's more than just a movie, but many more hours of fun, games, and entertainment. This set is a great value when you compare entertainment versus cost. It is currently just $23.95 with Free Super Saver Shipping on Amazon.com. You can also get The Lorax in 3D.
I am pleased to have seen The Lorax once, but I am even more excited to see it again when I share it with my kids!
