A Letter to U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Swimmer Michael Phelps

Since some of our children's favorite 2012 Olympic events were not always airing during times when the children were able to watch, they were happy to be able to catch the highlights on various YouTube videos.  Because all three are in the middle of swim training, the swimming events were some that they were most interested in watching.  Being ages, 5, 5, and 8, they were in complete awe at the swim skills possessed by these male and female Olympic athletes and are now even more determined to learn to swim themselves.

Below is a letter composed by our children to now retired Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps . . .

August 11, 2012

Dear Michael,

My brother thinks you swim like a fish with a motor because you swim so fast. Congratulations on breaking your own record. You did a great job!

Me, my brother, and sister are still learning to swim. My brother and I want to be great swimmers like you. Holding my breath underwater, I think is the hardest thing to do in swimming. How do you hold your breath all that time while you’re swimming?

Me, my brother, and sister really like watching your swimming videos. I’m really proud that you represented our country in the Olympics. I hope you win more gold medals.

Your fans,

Jake, Luke, and Makenzie
