Giveaway & Review: BBC's LIFE (Blu-ray or DVD) [CLOSED]

Spectacular, dazzling, and simply breathe taking. I don’t know that I can truly convey in words how outstanding the (British Broadcasting Corporation's) BBC’s LIFE series is. The rest of this review basically gushes about this amazing DVD set. You have been warned!

I can turn on my TV at any time and see interesting and beautiful high definition nature programming; some of this content is truly amazing, but the BBC LIFE series stands out and makes a quantum leap in nature documentary story telling. The BBC actually puts you in among the animals. You feel as if you are part of pack, brood, or gaggle. The BBC accomplishes this amazing feat in not just cinematography, but in spirit and emotion. The animals act as if the camera is not even there, even while in acrobatic movement.

Segment after segment I felt as if I was just inches away and utterly invisible. The animals acted naturally. The presence of a film crew had no impact on behavior at all. All this culminates in an experience that is memorable and as real as you can achieve without leaving your living room. The BBC Life DVD set is the reason people buy large screen high definition TV’s.

To top off this fantastic visual and spiritual experience, the documentary is narrated by Oprah Winfrey. Oprah does a great job of being informative yet entertaining. She adds levity where appropriate and intensity when needed.

The BBC’s LIFE series on DVD is a MUST OWN for your collection. This set is not just for nature lovers or documentary fans. This program is for every human being on the planet, especially the ones with giant high definition TV’s! I guarantee that all who sit and watch will be amazed.

A fitting tribute to Fathers everywhere . . .

The only reservation I have is in a sense a compliment. The program is so intense that I don’t know that it would be appropriate for all ages. Young children may not be able to handle the immensely realistic depiction of wildlife and its sometimes tragic endings. Having said that, with proper parental prescreening some viewing may be possible for youngsters.

I hope you enjoy the BBC LIFE series as much as I did!

You can purchase LIFE on DVD and Blu-ray at the BBC America Shop and most places where quality movies are sold. The 4-disc DVD set retails for $59.95 and the 4-disc Blu-ray set for $69.95, but you are likely to find these for a little less if you look for Father's Day promotions.

Thank you to the British Broadcasting Corporation for sending us a sample DVD set free of charge to base this review upon and for providing a second set as our contest prize.
