Our oldest son is now 6. He is finally getting to the age where he can enjoy working on a jigsaw puzzle with either (or both) my husband and myself. He is so proud that he can actually contribute to completing a section of the puzzle. This is something that his little brother and sister cannot do, so it makes him feel extra grown up.

My nephew is 5, and is just starting to get into puzzles, too, though he is frustrated by puzzles that have too many pieces.
Have you checked out online puzzle sites? like this one? My nephew really likes them, though they're not exactly the same as real puzzles. They have the benefit of allowing you to split the same picture up into more or less pieces, so you can make the puzzle as easy or hard as you want, and there are a variety of interesting pictures.

The best jigsaws in my mind are those ones where unless you have the box, you can never really tell what it's supposed to look like until the pieces all fit together. It can be challenging and frustrating, but still loads of fun in the end :D
