Last year, I had the pleasure of introducing Norman PhartEphant to my children and to my readers. Norman is an endearing elephant who seems to constantly have the problem of passing gas involuntarily. Even though gas is not a normal topic on my blog, my children thought Norman was the coolest thing. Go here to read my review about the plush Norman PhartEphant.

I have to say that this book review of Norman PhartEphant, Volume 1 by Angela Larson (the woman behind Fun Fierce Toys) could not have come at a more perfect time. My son, who just began kindergarten last fall, has been obsessed with the topic of passing gas. Every other sentence he utters seems to contain the word "fart" in it. I guess listening to that just comes with the territory of being a mother to a 6yr old boy.

In light of my son's new obsession, he very much enjoyed this book, which discusses the topic of passing gas openly. He made sure to have our Norman PhartEphant sitting on his lap while we read the book. I suggested that he make our Norman toot every time the Norman in the book did. My son thought that was a brilliant idea, plus it made him pay attention to the story very closely.

As a parent, I think this book is very entertaining for children because of its unique subject matter. The storyline is very easy to follow so it can be read to a child as young as 3 or 4, but can also be read alone by a child up to 8 years old or so. Larson even succeeded in sneaking in some fun facts about elephants and tigers into this storybook. The end of the book suggests that Volume 2 will be a continuation featuring another interesting animal from the zoo.
