Easy Recipe: Buttery Tortilla Chips

In honor of their "A Taste of the West" Sweepstakes, Challenge Butter has asked me to come up with a recipe for an appetizer to share with my readers. One of my favorite things to make, in which butter is a key ingredient, is golden yellow butter cake, but I'm not sure I could pull that off as an appetizer.

By now, you all must know that my recipes are always easy and require few ingredients. Sine the easiest thing to serve at a party is chips and dip, I decided to create a related recipe. Most people make their own dip and buy the chips, so I decided to come up with an easy way to make your own chips to accompany either homemade or store bought dip or to serve alone.

Recipe: Buttery Tortilla Chips

INGREDIENTS:
8" Flour Tortillas

(Suggestions for seasonings)
Garlic Salt
Grated Parmesan Cheese
Black Pepper
Paprika

Step 1. Preheat oven at 375 degrees.

Step 2. Spread a thin layer of butter evenly on both sides of a flour tortilla.

Step 3. Lightly sprinkle your choice of seasonings on each side of the buttered tortilla. (If you are serving these chips with dip, you can sprinkle the seasoning on just one side or use no seasoning at all.)

Step 4. Cut each 8" tortilla into 6 wedges.

Step5. Place the desired number of wedges in a single layer on a foil-lined cookie sheet.

Step 6. Bake for 4 to 5 minutes or until the edges begin to brown.

Step 7. Cool completely. Then serve alone or with your favorite dip.

We tried two different varieties of spices. Pictured above are the chips with just garlic salt and black pepper. These were my favorite. The ones below had grated Parmesan, garlic salt, paprika, and black pepper. These were flavored too strongly for my taste, but my children gobbled them up. You should experiment with seasonings you think your own family would like. We also tried one batch that only had one side of the tortillas buttered, but they came out a little dry, so I definitely recommend buttering both sides of the tortillas.
