Giveaway & Review: Dr. Hippo Books Giveaway Event [CLOSED]

My 5yr old son Jake is a huge fan of many different books series. Well, he just added the Dr. Hippo book series to his list. This series was authored by pediatrician and mom Charlotte Cowan, M.D. To date there are 5 books in this series and we were fortunate enough to receive all 5 books to review plus another whole set to giveaway during this 5 week event . . . one book each week.

What I thought about this book series as a parent:

1) The books are beautifully illustrated in full color. Every page has so much to take in that a child could sit for a long time just looking through the pictures on each page.

2) Dr. Hippocrates (or Dr. Hippo for short) represents the ideal pediatrician. His character helps children to think of their doctor as friendly, helpful, and not scary at all.

3) Each book explains the symptoms of a particular childhood illnesses and tells the child which symptoms should be worrisome and which ones are not. The illnesses covered in these five books include the common cold, an earache, a sore throat, a fever/rash, and diarrhea/vomiting.

4) I would love to see future additions to this book series about different types of allergies, chicken pox, and asthma.

5) I like how the books consistently show that if a child follows the doctor's and their parent's orders, they will get better more quickly and may not have to miss out on special plans or fun events.

6) These books help start dialogs between parents and children. There are many opportunities during these stories for your child to ask questions and for you to ask your child questions.

7) Each book comes with an accompanying parents guide that answers common questions and assists parents in knowing when to call the doctor, how to make their child more comfortable, and much more.

During this giveaway event, we will be giving away one book each week with a mini-review of each book. My son said his favorite book from the series is Katie Caught a Cold, so that is the first book we are giving away. This book discusses what should be done for the common cold with symptoms of sneezing and a stuffy nose.

What my 5yr old son thought about Katie Caught a Cold from the Dr. Hippo series:

1) He was especially thrilled that he could spot some of the other Dr. Hippo books throughout the pages in this book.

2) His favorite part in this book is when he could see the little bear's tail protruding from her pajamas. He seemed to think it was both cute and funny.

As you can see, my son's favorite parts of this book have nothing to do with the topic of illness. If you ask him to retell the story to you, he can easily. This proves that he learned what he was suppose to learn from the book, but he also thought the book was fun and enjoyable. He has read each book in the series at least 2 or 3 times so far.

If you are interested in purchasing one or all of the Dr. Hippo Books, you can find them on Amazon.com as well as in your local bookstores.

The author has generously offered to make out an autograph especially to a special child of the winner's choice (if desired by the winner).
